Hibernation Writing

Dear Readers and Writers,

Today, a simple observation inspired me to share my thoughts.  There is just something about the passage of time, the turning of the seasons, the ever nearing end of yet another year.   There is something about bad weather and the decreasing light that makes me want to hole up in my cave and write.  I wonder how many of you share this desire.

The dragonflies dance in the dying light.  A snick sounds loud in the silence of nature, a moment before light floods the area in front of my porch.  The croak of tree frogs picks up in rhythm and tempo.  The damp scent of rain weighs heavy in the air.  The fireflies flash signals from the field.  Night birds screech as they turn on wing in the sky to swoop down on their prey hidden among the freshly mown grass.

A plump moth grazes the wisps of hair at my nape on its way to the light, but is snagged by a fleshy winged, gliding creature.  Another daring bat casts a shadow as it flies in for its supper, and I decide to retreat to my desk to capture the simplistic splendor of nature.

Enjoy the wonders in your world.

Happy Reading and Writing,

I just found my first review for my first full length novel.  I am so excited; I had to share!

Hundred Calorie Snacks:  A Carpathian Texan Novel Book 1

5*****intelligent, paranormal

By Jennifer Aubry on August 23, 2015

Format: Kindle Edition
If you're looking for an original, intelligent, paranormal, look no further...Ms. Haven's, Hundred Calorie Snacks novel delivers. The main characters were complex and well developed, as was the paranormal world.
The hero is a sexy, irresistible Vampire working undercover for a clandestine security agency and she's a no-nonsense, red-headed CIA operative who just wants to get back in the field.
Love this novel and look forward to reading more from this author.

Emotional Scenes

July 21, 2015

Dear Reader,

I was crying when my husband came in from work, and he asked me what was wrong.  I told him I was okay, just that a scene got to me.  He smiled, then pulled me forward in an embrace, and placed a gentle kiss on my forehead.

He asked, “One of yours?”

“Yes.”

He said, “Then I know it’s good.”

His comments made me realize just how much, writing affects readers, and inspired me to share our moment with you.

Happy Reading,

Write, Edit, Listen, Revise

Dear Reader,

As the writer, you know more about the story than anyone, so can sometimes overlook important details needed to bring the reader to the knowledge, understanding, or point you want them to find.  You know how a sentence is supposed to read.  You know what you want communicated with your words.  Your mind can sometimes supply words or phrases that your fingers missed with keystrokes.  For these reasons and more, when you read your work, you should read it aloud, put it on a program to read the work to you, and have others read your work.  But do your wonderful alpha through omega readers a favor with edit, listen, and revise before you pass your WIP on to them.  Your efforts will be appreciated, and improve your craft.

Happy Word Crafting,

Carolyn Haven
